Methyl N-acetylglycinate is a drug that belongs to the class of oxazolidinones and has antibiotic properties. It is activated by intramolecular hydrogen transfer, which produces an amide-to-imine intermediate. This process leads to the formation of a reactive intermediate that reacts with the DNA of bacteria, inhibiting synthesis and causing cell death. Methyl N-acetylglycinate is used in clinical settings as an antimicrobial agent against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Covid-19, a pandemic influenza virus, has been shown to be sensitive to this drug. The activation energies for this compound are very high at 56 kcal/mol and it has a molecular weight of 296.2 g/mol.
