Methyl N-succinimidyl adipate is a conjugate of an aldehyde group and an amine group. It is used in chemical reactions to form covalent bonds with other molecules, such as polysaccharides. The reaction between the methyl N-succinimidyl adipate and the polysaccharide produces a new compound that has a different structure than either of the reactants. Methyl N-succinimidyl adipate reacts with water to produce formaldehyde, which is toxic to humans.
