Description:

Methyl triphenylmethyl ether (MTME) is a nitro compound that is used for the manufacture of organic nitrates and explosives. It is also used as a reagent in phase chromatography, where it is mixed with hydrogen chloride to form methyl trichloromethyl ether. MTME can be produced by reacting hydrochloric acid with metal ions and an organic solvent, with the addition of a catalyst such as dione or a metal ion. MTME is an industrial process chemical that can be used in the production of microcapsules. It reacts with reduction products to form methyl phenylcarbinol.
