Product Information
- 2-Methyl-2-phenyl-succinic acid2-Methyl-2-phenyl-butanedioic acid
2-Methyl-2-phenylsuccinic acid is a long chain arylpiperazine that can be used as an anti-epileptic. It binds to the 5-HT1A receptor and 5-HT7 receptor, and has shown to be effective in animal models. This drug also blocks the conversion of serotonin into melatonin, which may be useful for the treatment of insomnia. 2-Methyl-2-phenylsuccinic acid is synthesized by reacting 2-methylsuccinic acid with phenylmagnesium bromide in ethylene glycol, and reacts with formaldehyde to produce a methyl ester. It is then reacted with methylamine hydrochloride in dimethylformamide to produce the final product.
