2-Methyl-3-carbethoxy-5,6-dihydropyran (2MCP) is a solvent that is used to dissolve other substances. 2MCP can be activated by hydrochloric acid or chlorine and reacts with ethylene in an organic solvent to form 2-methyl-3-ethoxycarbonylhexahydropyran, which is a prodrug. The reaction yield is dependent on the temperature and concentration of the reactants. A mixture of 2MCP and chloroform can be used as a solvent for reactions involving halides or inorganic substances at low temperatures. 2MCP has vasodilatory properties and can be used as a diluent for hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, or hydrogen peroxide.
