Beraprost sodium is a hyperlipidemic agent that inhibits the production of prostaglandin, an inflammatory hormone. Beraprost sodium has been shown to have prophylactic effects against tumours and may be used to treat atherosclerosis. The drug also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be used in the treatment of hyperlipidemic conditions. Beraprost sodium has been shown to decrease cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels in patients with atherosclerotic heart disease. It can also reduce vascular resistance and blood pressure, which leads to an increase in coronary blood flow. Beraprost sodium is a derivative of candesartan, which is a selective angiotensin II receptor antagonist that blocks the binding of angiotensin II to its receptors, thereby inhibiting the production of vasoconstrictor prostaglandins.
