2-Methyl-4-nitropyridine is an organic chemical compound with the formula C5H7N3O. It is a colorless or white solid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. 2-Methyl-4-nitropyridine has been shown to form nitroso, thiosemicarbazide, and nitrosothiol functionalities. This molecule can be used as a precursor for other compounds through hydrogenation reduction, nucleophilic substitution reactions, and electron transfer reactions. The n-oxide of 2-methylpyridine can be obtained by reacting with oxygen gas in the presence of light. Spectroscopic data indicate that this molecule has a hydrogen bond and some aromaticity due to its ring structure.
2-Methyl-4-nitropyridine has been found to reduce ethylene acetal under mild conditions.
