Product Information
- 2-[(3-Methoxyphenyl)ethynyl]-6-methylpyridine hydrochloride
2-Methyl-6-[(3-methoxyphenyl)ethynyl]pyridine hydrochloride (2MPE) is a competitive inhibitor of glutamate receptors. It binds to the allosteric site on the receptor and blocks the binding of glutamate, preventing activation of the receptor. 2MPE has been shown to have no effect on recombinant proteins and is not toxic in vivo at doses up to 10 mg/kg. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on plant physiology and molecular modeling, which may be due to its carbonyl group. 2MPE has been shown to cross-couple with 2-methylphenylethyne (2MPE), which is a reaction that forms a carbon-carbon bond between two molecules.
