Description:

4-(Methylamino)-4-(3-pyridyl)butyric acid (BAY 13-9566) is a chemical substance that inhibits the growth of tumors. It has been shown to be carcinogenic in hamsters and to inhibit the growth of tumors in mice. 4-(Methylamino)-4-(3-pyridyl)butyric acid has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of propionic acid, an endogenous carcinogen, by inhibiting enzymes such as n-nitrososarcosine. The chemical substance also inhibits tumor growth by binding to nicotine or tobacco smoke and reducing its ability to cause DNA damage. The chemical substance may be a potential treatment for lung cancer.
