N-Methylhexadecylamine is a neutralizing agent that is used in oil and gas production. It is an amide with viscosity and lubricity, which can be used as a model system to study the effect of nitrogen atoms on the properties of phosphorus pentoxide. The use of N-methylhexadecylamine can improve the absorption enhancer properties of cationic surfactants. This chemical also has the ability to remove hydroxyl groups from crankcase oils, which can cause corrosion in engines. N-methylhexadecylamine is a very good absorber of nitrates and chloride ions in wastewater treatment systems, which makes it useful for removing these contaminants from water.
