(S)-1'-Methylnicotinium iodide is a choline and dopamine analog that has been shown to have physiological effects. It has been shown to enhance the uptake of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) in rat striatal tissue. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as an analytical method for quantifying the concentration of SSRI in blood plasma. The quaternization of this compound with methyl iodide provides a chromatographic method for separating racemic mixtures of amino acid esters.
