4-(Methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone N-oxide (NNN-O) is a carcinogen and has been shown to increase the risk of developing lung cancer. This chemical can be found in cigarette smoke, as well as fried bacon and other nitrite-cured meats. It reacts with DNA to form adducts, which are thought to be responsible for its carcinogenic effects. 4-(Methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone N-oxide binds primarily to the liver cells, although it also binds to monoclonal antibodies and polyclonal antibodies. This binding may affect the antibody response against this compound. The metabolic pathway of 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone N-oxide involves glucuronide conjugation and piperonyl butoxide inhibits this process
