Product Information
6-Methyltetradecanoic acid is an activating fatty acid that is found in small amounts in mammalian tissues. It activates the synthesis of heparin and other glycosaminoglycans, which are important components of the extracellular matrix. 6-Methyltetradecanoic acid has been shown to be a precursor for the synthesis of fatty acids with problematic properties, such as propionate and acetate. 6-Methyltetradecanoic acid is also involved in the production of oxygenated fatty acids, such as palmitoleate and oleate, by mammary gland cells. This fatty acid may also play a role in bacterial membrane function or act as a bactericidal agent against bacteria.
