Description:

4-(Methylthio)butylnitrile is an organic acid that has been shown to be a silver ion and cyanide-releasing agent at cryogenic temperatures. It also releases cyanate, gaseous formaldehyde, and solid formaldehyde when heated. 4-(Methylthio)butylnitrile can be used as a catalyst for the production of glucosinolates and isothiocyanates from plant tissue. This compound has been shown to release butyric acid when heated, which can be useful in the production of dl-methionine.
