- 1-Tridecanol, 12-Methyl-
12-Methyltridecanol (12-MT) is a methoxylated fatty acid that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of leukemia HL-60 cells. 12-MT inhibits the growth of leukemia cells by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis, which is required for cell proliferation. 12-MT also inhibits the production of fatty acids in leukemia cells, which are thought to play an important role in chronic myelogenous leukemia. The inhibition of fatty acid synthesis by 12-MT may be due to its interaction with porphyromonas gingivalis and other bacteria, which produce long-chain aldehydes. These aldehydes bind to the enzyme acyl coenzyme A dehydrogenase (ACAD), leading to reduced conversion of long chain fatty acids into acetyl CoA.
