N10-Monodesmethyl rizatriptan is an analog of the triptan drug rizatriptan. It has a similar chemical structure to the parent compound, but with one less methyl group. N10-Monodesmethyl rizatriptan is used in the treatment of migraines, and it has been shown to be effective in both adults and children. This drug interacts with serotonin receptors and inhibits the reuptake of serotonin. The plasma concentration of this drug is low following oral administration because it undergoes first-pass metabolism in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes. Urinary concentrations are found to be significantly higher than plasma concentrations, which may be due to its high affinity for erythrocytes and plasma proteins. N10-Monodesmethyl rizatriptan also possesses a long elimination half-life that may be attributed to its high lipophilicity and slow excretion from the body via urine.
