6-Methoxy-alpha-(5-vinyl-2-quinuclidinyl)-4-quinolinemethanol is a model system for the study of quinidine transport in cells. It has been shown to inhibit ATP-dependent transport and may be used as a pharmacological agent for the treatment of infectious diseases, such as atrial fibrillation. 6-Methoxy-alpha-(5-vinyl-2-quinuclidinyl)-4-quinolinemethanol has also been shown to have cardiac effects and can induce myocardial infarcts in mice. This drug is an inhibitor of protein synthesis and gene expression.
