Product Information

Name:
cis-11-Methyl-2-dodecenoic acid
Synonyms:
  • (2Z)-11-Methyl-2-dodecenoic acid
  • 2-Dodecenoic acid, 11-methyl-, (2Z)-
Description:

cis-11-Methyl-2-dodecenoic acid is a fatty acid that acts as an antimicrobial agent. It inhibits the growth of human pathogens such as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, which causes lung infections in cystic fibrosis patients. cis-11-Methyl-2-dodecenoic acid is not toxic to healthy cells and has been shown to be effective in vitro against a number of bacterial strains. This molecule is synthesized from two molecules of acetyl CoA by the synthetic pathway of fatty acids. cis-11-Methyl-2-dodecenoic acid can also inhibit protease activity by binding to the active site on the enzyme, preventing it from breaking down proteins.
