Product Information
N-Methyl-D-alanine is an amino acid that has been isolated from the bacterium, subtilis. It is a cyclic peptide that contains both l-alanine and D-alanine. N-Methyl-D-alanine has been shown to have nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist activity, which may be due to its ability to bind to the protein data from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected cells. This molecule also activates gene expression and protein synthesis in noninfected cells. The optimum pH for this compound is between 5 and 6. A liquid chromatography method was used to isolate N-Methyl-D-alanine from subtilis. This active form can be found at a concentration of 1.5 mg/mL in water at room temperature or at 4°C after solubilizing it with n-methylformamide.
