1-Methyl-2-pyridone is a reactive intermediate that is found in the synthesis of many biologically active compounds. This compound has been shown to inhibit inflammation by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are inflammatory mediators. 1-Methyl-2-pyridone has also been shown to inhibit the activity of amines, such as histamine and serotonin, and other protonated molecules. This compound is not stable in acidic media, so it should be stored in an inert solvent such as dimethyl sulfoxide or dioxane if it is being used for medicinal purposes.
