Methylenetanshinquinone is a compound that has been extracted from the leaves of the Chinese herb Eucommia ulmoides. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vivo and in vitro. Methylenetanshinquinone has demonstrated protective effects on neurons, as well as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This compound also has potential anticancer activity, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. Methylenetanshinquinone inhibits toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling through binding to TLR4, preventing activation of downstream inflammatory pathways such as nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and mitogen activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (MAPK/ERK).
