1-Methyl-2-phenoxyethylamine is an irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme alpha-adrenergic receptor. It has been used in humans to treat high blood pressure and urinary retention. Labetalol is an alkylsulfonyl amine that competes with 1-methyl-2-phenoxyethylamine for binding sites on alpha adrenergic receptors, thereby preventing 1-methyl-2-phenoxyethylamine from binding to the receptor. The effects of labetalol are reversible, while those of 1-methyl-2-phenoxyethylamine are irreversible. This drug can be found in urine samples that have not been labeled, which makes it difficult to determine whether or not it is being abused. The metabolism of this drug has been studied using a model system based on serotonin and triazine. Kinetic analysis and molecular modeling revealed a possible mechanism for the metabolism of 1-methyl-2-phenoxyethylamine. Chemical ion
