Description:

2-Methyl-2-oxazoline is a zwitterion. It is an organic compound that has been shown to have a variety of applications, such as being a monomer for cationic polymerization and being used in the synthesis of proteins. 2-Methyl-2-oxazoline has been shown to react with basic proteins through a nucleophilic attack mechanism and can be used to synthesize chiral amino acids. The reaction of this compound with nitrogen atoms provides the starting point for the synthesis of heterocycles. 2-Methyl-2-oxazoline also has magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) properties and can be used to study the kinetics of reactions involving nucleophilic attack. This chemical is considered safe for use in infants because it does not form nitrosamines or nitrosamides when heated at high temperatures.
