Product Information

Name:
1-Methyl-1H-imidazole-5-carbaldehyde
Synonyms:
  • 1-Methylimidazole-5-Carboxaldehyde
Description:

1-Methyl-1H-imidazole-5-carbaldehyde (1MICA) is a molecule that has been identified as a marine metabolite from Australian marine sponges. 1MICA inhibits the growth of cancer cells, making it a potential anti-tumor agent. It also has vibrational and base formation properties. Using molecular electrostatic potentials, conformational properties of 1MICA have been studied and shown to be similar to those of fatty acids. This suggests that 1MICA may play a role in the production of fatty acids. Preputial secretions from Australian sea turtles contain 1MICA, which may play a role in their anti-bacterial activity.
