Methyl (S)-(+)-3-hydroxybutyrate is an amino acid that is used as a building block in the synthesis of chiral compounds. The reaction between methyl (S)-(+)-3-hydoxybutyrate and aluminum oxide produces hydrogen gas, which can be used as a carbon source for kinetic studies.
