2-Methylene-1,3-propanediol is a substance that has the ability to neutralize or inactivate substances. It has the ability to react with nitrogen atoms and form crosslinks between fatty acid chains. 2-Methylene-1,3-propanediol can also be used to allylate other compounds. This product is often used as a crosslinker in polymer chemistry. In addition, it can also be used as an inhibitor that prevents reactions by forming hydrogen bonds with reactive molecules such as amines and hydroxyl groups. It is commonly found in nepeta cataria (catnip) and various plants such as peppermint, spearmint, and basil. 2-Methylene-1,3-propanediol is also used for sample preparation before analysis by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.
