Description

6-Methyl-2-pyridineacetic acid (6MP) is a type of organic compound. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water. 6MP has been shown to have an excitation wavelength at 330 nm and an emission wavelength at 350 nm. In the solid state, 6MP exhibits molecular packing with guanine, which may be due to the high degree of multiplicity exhibited by this molecule. X-ray crystallography has demonstrated that 6MP binds to chloride ions and forms a coordination complex with a neutral pH. The carboxylate group participates in the coordination of the chloride ion, while the conformation of the carboxylate group changes depending on its environment. This conformational change is most likely responsible for the enhancement of fluorescence emission observed in this molecule.
