Description:

3-Methylthiopropyl acetate is a food flavoring agent that has been shown to be used as an organic solvent in the production of furfuryl acetate. It has been detected at high concentrations in various fruit and vegetable products, including cantaloupe and strawberries. 3-Methylthiopropyl acetate is also used as a reagent for chemiluminescent detection of aldehydes. It can be used to detect benzoate and photometrically measure isovaleric acid and hydroxy group levels. 3-Methylthiopropyl acetate has also been shown to have a matrix effect on the analysis of volatile compounds such as isovaleric acid, which can lead to errors in the quantification of these compounds.
