Product Information
- 4-Methyl-3-oxo-pentanenitrile
- Pentanenitrile, 4-methyl-3-oxo-
4-Methyl-3-oxopentanenitrile (4MP) is an organic solvent that can be used in the synthesis of pyrimidine derivatives. It reacts with 2 equivalents of thiourea to form a 4-methyl-3-oxopentanedinitrile and 2 equivalents of ammonia. The reaction mechanism is not fully understood, but it is believed that the product is formed through nucleophilic attack on the nitrile by ammonia. 4MP has also been shown to react with aldehydes and heterocycles to produce dihydropyrimidones. This reaction has been shown to follow a kinetics law with first order kinetics and aliphatic alkyl groups as the rate limiting step.
