Description

2-(Methylthio)aniline (2-MeSA) is a chelate ring that has been used in cell membrane permeability studies and in the synthesis of biologically active molecules. 2-MeSA is a crystalline compound with a molecular weight of 204.2 g/mol and an empirical formula of C6H11NOS. The functional studies on 2-MeSA have shown that it binds to formyl groups and can be used as a reagent for acylation reactions. 2-MeSA also has been used as a starting material for x-ray crystal structures of potassium hydride (KH). This chemical's chemical structure is similar to that of the nucleoside uridine, which may be due to its ability to bind to DNA by hydrogen bonding.
