4-Methylsulphonylphenylacetic acid is a research chemical that has been shown to inhibit cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 enzymes. It is structurally similar to phenylacetic acid, but with the addition of a methylsulfonyl group on the 4-position. This modification inhibits the enzyme’s ability to bind to the active site of the enzyme, leading to reduced production of prostaglandins. 4MSAA has been shown to be more potent than nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in inhibiting cyclooxygenases, which are associated with inflammation.
