4-Methylnonanoic acid is a fatty acid that is found in the diet and can be synthesized by mammals. It has been shown to have a matrix effect in vitro assays. 4-Methylnonanoic acid can also activate adipose cells, increase metabolic rate, and inhibit the production of triglycerides. It has also been shown to increase ATP levels and reduce glycogen depletion in vitro assays. 4-Methylnonanoic acid may play a role in energy metabolism as it was shown to have physiological activities in vivo.
