5-Methyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the activity of prostaglandins. It has been shown to inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators, such as leukotrienes, from cells and to inhibit the production of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. This drug also has a weak analgesic effect and can be used for the treatment of inflammation. 5-Methyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is an inhibitor of COX enzyme, which is an enzyme that produces prostaglandins in response to injury or irritation. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to decreased levels of prostaglandins, which are substances that cause inflammation and pain.
