Methyl propyl disulphide is a volatile organic compound that is used as a solvent. It has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal studies, and can be toxic to the liver, kidneys, and heart. Methyl propyl disulphide is also known for its ability to bind to odorant molecules, which are released by bacteria in their metabolic processes. Methyl propyl disulphide has been shown to have an antibiotic property against resistant microorganisms such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus epidermidis. It also inhibits the production of enzymes that are responsible for detoxification of xenobiotics.
