It is also used in the synthesis of alkenes, benzene, and sulfur compounds. 3-Methyl-2-butanethiol has been shown to function as an antioxidant in cinnamon oil. The thermodynamic properties of this compound are high yield, low equilibrium constant, and high vapor pressure. 3-Methyl-2-butanethiol has been found to be the major component responsible for the aroma of cinnamon oil.
