Description:

N-Methyl-N-(3-pyridylmethyl)amine is a molybdate analogue that inhibits microbial growth by inhibiting enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of nucleic acids. It is a regiospecific and stereoselective inhibitor of the enzyme ureafaciens, which catalyzes the stepwise oxidation of urea to form carbamoyl phosphate. N-Methyl-N-(3-pyridylmethyl)amine inhibits microbial growth by binding to the tautomeric form of molybdenum, which prevents the formation of enzymes that are required for cell division.
