Mono-methyl isophthalate (MMIP) is a hydroxide solution that inhibits matrix metalloproteinase enzymes. It has been shown to inhibit MMP-2 and MMP-9 in human HL-60 cells, with an IC50 of 0.5 mM. MMIP has also been shown to inhibit the activity of glutamate dehydrogenase in urine samples from healthy subjects. This compound also has the ability to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase enzymes by forming a covalent bond with the carbonyl group of active site cysteine residues. MMIP is an all-trans retinoic acid derivative that has been used as a biochemical and analytical method for measuring the levels of all-trans retinoic acid in urine samples.
