Description

Methyl 4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoate (MTB) is a Grignard reagent that is used for the preparation of a variety of compounds. It may be decarboxylated to form 3-carboxy-2-methyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid, which has high values and a red shift. MTB is an organic solvent that can dissolve many types of organic compounds, and can be used as a coupling agent in organic synthesis. The coumarin derivatives may be prepared by reduction with MTB, followed by functional group introduction. The trifluoromethyl group on MTB can undergo catalytic reduction to form methyl 4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoate hydrochloride or methyl 4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoate methanesulfonate.
