2-Methoxyisonicotinic acid is a synthetic compound that is used as an antioxidant. It is also one of the active ingredients in Andrographis paniculata, which has been used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. The antiinflammatory activity of 2-Methoxyisonicotinic acid may be due to inhibition of the inflammatory response by reducing oxidative stress or inhibiting production of proinflammatory cytokines. This agent has been shown to inhibit the expression of inflammatory genes and to suppress NF-kappaB activation in vitro.
