Description:

4-Methoxymandelic acid is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of phenylacetic acids. It is produced from mandelic acid by oxidation with sodium dichromate and sulfuric acid, followed by hydrolysis. 4-Methoxymandelic acid has been shown to be a substrate for the enzyme catalase and can be used as an analytical reagent for the determination of total phenols in plant extracts. It has also been used as a catalyst for organic reactions involving hydroxyl groups in kinetic studies. The compound has been immobilized on an ion-exchange resin, which can be recycled after use.
