2-Methyl-1,3-dichloroanthraquinone is a synthetic substance that has been shown to be an antibacterial agent. It is the initiator of a chain reaction and reacts with nitrite to form 2-methyl-1,3-dinitroanthraquinone, which exhibits antithrombotic properties. This compound also has potential as a therapeutic agent for Alzheimer's disease because it inhibits the formation of beta amyloid protein and prevents the aggregation of beta amyloid protein in vitro. It is also an antithrombotic agent.
