Product Information

Name:
2-Methyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroQuinoline
Synonyms:
  • 5,6,7,8-Tetra-2-methylquinoline
  • 2-Methyl-5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroquinoline
Description:

2-Methyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline (2MTHQ) is a chiral compound that has been shown to have cytotoxic activity against a2780 cells and colorectal adenocarcinoma. It is also a mitochondrial membrane active compound with biological effect on cancer cells. 2MTHQ causes mitochondrial membrane depolarization in cancer cells, which leads to the disruption of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and cell death. The enantiomers of 2MTHQ are differentially active against ovarian cancer cells. The S enantiomer is more potent than the R enantiomer and it is thought that this may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis.
