Methyl gamma-linolenate is a fatty acid that is derived from linoleic acid. It has shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells in vitro. Methyl gamma-linolenate also inhibits caspase-9, an enzyme that plays a key role in the apoptosis pathway.
Methyl gamma-linolenate has been shown to regulate the production of amp-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which is a cellular regulator that controls glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin signaling, and inflammation. This activity may be due to its ability to bind to the regulatory domain of AMPK.
