Product Information
Maglifloenone is a phytochemical found in Virola surinamensis, which is a tree native to South America. It is extracted from the bark of the tree and purified by chloroform extraction. Maglifloenone belongs to the group of neolignans and has been shown to have antiviral properties. It inhibits replication of HIV-1 and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) in vitro. Maglifloenone also inhibits uptake of fatty acids by cultured cells, suggesting that it may be used as a potential treatment for obesity. The effects of maglifloenone on humans are currently being investigated.
