- (4-Methylphenyl)(Oxo)Acetaldehyde Hydrate
4-Methylphenylglyoxal hydrate is a chiral compound with two enantiomers. The racemic mixture of 4-methylphenylglyoxal hydrate is an effective inhibitor of the interaction between binap and benzodiazepine receptor. The binding affinity for this interaction has been shown to increase when the concentration of 4-methylphenylglyoxal hydrate is increased. This inhibition may be due to the ability of 4-methylphenylglyoxal hydrate to interact with the aminophenyl group on binap and the benzodiazepine receptor. This interaction was studied using molecular modelling techniques, which showed that the hydrogen bond between these two molecules is strengthened by the presence of 4-methylphenylglyoxal hydrate.
