Methyl propargyl ether is a reactive molecule that has been found to be effective in treating cancer. It is believed that this compound induces cancer cells to undergo apoptosis by reacting with the hydrogen chloride and n-oxide groups of the molecule, forming a cationic polymerization. This reaction may be due to its conformational properties, which are similar to those of polystyrene. Methyl propargyl ether can also react with fatty acids, leading to metabolic disorders. In addition, methyl propargyl ether has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria.
