Product Information

Name:
Magnesium Perchlorate Hexahydrate
Synonyms:
  • Magnesium Diperchlorate Hexahydrate
Description:

Magnesium perchlorate hexahydrate is a chemical compound that is used as an oxidizer in fireworks and road flares. It is also used to produce magnesium oxide and magnesium chloride. The reaction of magnesium perchlorate with water vapor produces magnesium hydroxide, a white solid that crystallizes into small needles. Magnesium perchlorate can be obtained by the dehydration of magnesium chlorate, which is formed from the reaction of magnesium oxide and sodium perchlorate. Activation energies for this process are at least 51 kcal/mol for the first step, and at least 18 kcal/mol for the second step.br>br>Magnesium perchlorate hexahydrate has been shown to have a high specific ligand activity and reacts with electrons more readily than other metal perchlorates such as potassium perchlorate or barium perchlorate. This compound has been found to have a high solubility in water, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds
