Methyl trans-cinnamate is a polymer that can be used as an antimicrobial agent. It is an inhibitor of the c. glabrata polymerase chain reaction. Methyl trans-cinnamate has been shown to bind to the enzyme and inhibit the catalytic activity, which leads to inhibition of DNA synthesis. Methyl trans-cinnamate was shown to have high thermal expansion properties that make it a good candidate for use in polymeric materials such as polyurethanes, polyesters and polyamides. The rate constant of methyl trans-cinnamate binding to c. glabrata DNA polymerase was determined by measuring the amount of time it took for a colloidal gold particle to diffuse across a solution containing both methyl trans-cinnamate and c. glabrata DNA polymerase in different concentrations. The experiment was repeated at different temperatures and the rate constants were calculated from the data collected at each temperature, yielding an Arrhenius plot
