It forms acid complexes with metal ions such as copper, zinc, and nickel. 2-Methyl-5-vinylpyridine has been shown to cause systolic hypertension and congestive heart failure in animal studies. 2-Methyl-5-vinylpyridine may also have a role in the pathogenesis of cardiac hypertrophy by inhibiting the production of epidermal growth factor.
