(E)-Methyl 3-(4-cyanophenyl)acrylate is an aminoalcohol that is synthesized by the regioselective addition of sodium bicarbonate to cinnamyl alcohol. It has a high yield and can be used in the synthesis of other aminoalcohols. (E)-Methyl 3-(4-cyanophenyl)acrylate is also useful in the synthesis of cinnamate esters, which are regioselective intermediates for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, perfumes, and natural products.
